  Open Media Composer 4 Projects in Media Composer 8?

  Hi All,

  Has anyone tried to open older projects and assets in Media Composer 8 that originated from old versions of Media Composer, such as version 4? I have a client that wants to upgrade his system and use Media Composer 8; however, he still uses Media Composer 4. So we want to make sure that if he upgrades to version 8, opening projects and assets won’t cause any issue.

  I’ve found older posts of a similar question of opening version 4 projects in version 6 of Media Composer, but I do need a definitive answer about doing this for Media Composer 8. Of course, I can’t get Avid on the phone because we don’t have a support code, so I’m doing my best to research the issue to be able to confidently tell them yes or no.

  They will open fine. Note that when you open the sequence, Avid will ask to update it…click yes. And a copy of the sequence will appear in the bin, with a .updated on it.

  Yes V8 will open earlier projects. Also you will be on support with V8
