Avid MC Plugins, Recommendations, Experiences…
hey fellow creatives…I’m accustomed to an FCP>After Effects workflow and utilize Noise Industries and Magic Bullet plugins and filters for compositing, color correction and effects…
I’m loving the AVID MC environment and am ready to start flexing some compositing, keyframing and effects but it’s a financial commitment to have the array of tools that I am accustomed to having at my disposal. Yes I still have After Effects for complex animations, keying, compositing and finishing…but I need to stay in my NLE timeline so as to find a visual language and rhythm for the piece I’m working on.
I would love to hear your experiences and recommendations regarding what 3rd party toolsets you are using to compliment your Avid Media Composer suite. There are so many options out there, some pricier than others, some more widely known than others, or just better marketed 🙂

Hi Charles,
The 3rd party plugin world for Avid is quite limited in comparison to FCP but IMHO people often overlook Avid’s built in effects. For comp and keying I would strongly recommend spending some time using getting to know Animatte in conjunction with the Paint Tool. The Paint tool in particular is very powerful, and there’s also BCC composite if you need more parameters. You’d be amazed at how many times clients have asked me to do a quick comp reference for a VFX artist and then be surprised that it can all be done in Avid.
