  like a garbage matte

  Hello. I am formerly a FCP editor now working in avid. This is only my second project to edit in avid. I am working in avid symphony version 6.

  Unfortunately I shot an interview slightly out of focus. I am wanting to stack my video clip and cut around the person I interviewed so I can sharpen my subject but not the background. And feather it appropriately. I used to be able to do this using the 8 point garbage matte in FCP. I’ve tried the paint effect and animatte and I have not been able to achieve anything properly.

  Please help and being very specific would be greatly appreciated.

  Probably several ways to do this, here is one way: Stack video, sharpen top layer with effect of your choice then add Animatte effect which allows you to cut out and feather.
