1440×1080 in 1920×1080 ?
Posted by Avi Lev on January 15, 2014 at 5:35 pmI’m working on a project with raster dimension of 1920×1080.
This project includes source of miniDV cassettes filmed on HDV 1440×1080 .I’m trying to find a way to digitize this source, but so far without much success. Any way around?
MC5.0.4.4

January 15, 2014 at 6:12 pmHDV can be captured via firewire, just use a 1440×1080 project. THen bring the bin into a 1920×1080 project. It’ll stretch to fill the frame. 1440 is anamorphic.
What do you have at your disposal to capture? Nitris? Mojo? Third party? Deck and Firewire?

January 15, 2014 at 6:54 pmThanks so much Shane
How come I didn’t think about it….da
As for the Nitris and the Mojo, I have non of them, I used the Mojo before as a support for my old Mac. For some reason that I’m not sure why,the 2×2.4 GHz quad-Core Intel Xeon, is strong enough to do the job(?). -

January 15, 2014 at 7:32 pmThen you capture via firewire. Just make sure you are in a 1440×1080 project, and you set the deck up correctly to capture via firewire.

January 15, 2014 at 9:46 pmI just did it as you told me,I imported the 1440×1080 via OPEN BIN to the 1920×1080 project.
It worked perfect, but I find it a bit strange, since the image looks the same.(?)The other strange thing happened when I switched back to the 1440×1080 project.
I was trying to digitize more footage via the firewire when an Avid note came on screen:
“Exeption: Operation not supported, filename:/My Passport/Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1/Criating/creating 14”
what I understand in this message is only the file name, the external SES drive name; My Passport. -

As for why it looks the same, it’s because anamorphic footage is designed to be unsqueezed when added to a timeline. It’s anamorphic to conserve the data rate. Many cameras shoot anamorphic formats. Not sure about that error…

January 16, 2014 at 2:59 pmI believe the Avid note “operation not supported….” refer to some conflict with the MY Passport drive,:
https://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=640
The note doesn’t come off unless you eject the drive completelyAgain,it happened in capturing mode
