MC7: transcoding 2k ProRes4444 to 1920×1080 DNxHD – apect ratio question
Hello all
i’m new to using MC7 and would love some advice if anyone can help – re: maintaining aspect ratio during transcoding from 2k to 1920×1080 (in the past have used Davinci but this time we are going with an all MC7 workflow!)
Original media is 2k ProRes4444 – first linked by AMA, we added a LUT
New media will be 1920×1080 DNxHD36Doing this on previous films using Davinci i’m pretty sure led to thin letterbox top & bottom to account for the wider 2k aspect. But our first tests on MC7 suggest there are no black borders in the timeline when viewing the DNxHD we have made so far.
So my question i think is – how do we control the aspect ratio issue?
My reading/ watching so far suggests that frameflex is used in the timeline when using AMA and is non destructive. But we are wanting to create DNxHD media for our offline with color and frame changes baked in to all our clips.
Any advice from MC7 experts out there?? Is there some way to tell MC keep the original aspect ratio?
ps. I wonder if in the Consolidate/ Transcode dialogue box if the “apply reformatting option (compatibility mode)” option refers to this in the same way as “apply color transformation” refers to baking in the LUT.
All the best
