Project Setting for 1080 60p footage from FS100
Since None of the project settings are compatible, which is the proper one to use? I plan to AMA/transcode. I’m in MC 7.

Unfortunately it is a choice between raster resolution and motion resolution as there is no 1080p/59.94 project.
If you select 1080i, then every progressive frame becomes a field reducing vertical horizontal resolution by half and basically edit on every “frame”.
If you select 720p/59.94 you will get all 59.94 progressive frames and be able to edit on each one, but will have lost overall raster resolution.
Hopefully “50p” and “60p” editing will come in a future release (sooner rather than later) as these formats are quite common now.
If output is for web and mobile, I would try to keep it progressive all the way – if for broadcast – then interlace project is probably OK but more and more screens are progressive.

Well, those are popular SHOOTING formats lately, but there is zero distribution for that format.
BluRay doesn’t do 1080p60.
Broadcast doesn’t do 1080p60.
The web doesn’t do 1080p60.
You can export that as a QT file…but then I think the only method for distribution is delivering that specific file
That format exists, from my understanding, in order to get smooth slow motion. Shoot 1080p60…slow the frame rate down to 30, or 24, for nice smooth motion.
I’m guessing that until there’s a distribution method for that format, we might not see support for it. Although it would be nice to bring it in at 1080p60 so you can slow it down in the Avid. Currently you have to do the slowing using outside options.

I’ve worked on several projects lately and did some consulting on the Doug Trumbull project where 60p is needed and is supported in DCI for digital cinema. So there is an output for it. 720p/59.94 plays just fine on the web, so there is no frame rate restriction for steaming. Also, the EBU accepts it now as future proof format in their delivery spec.
But I wholeheartedly agree that AMA needs an “interpret as” frame rate for file based formats. MC used to do it with tape based formats just fine.

Since the framerate differs, it is not possible to do a proxy/hi-res workflow correct?

In Media Composer you will have to choose – Avid DS and perhaps Smoke, Resolve or other apps have a native 1080p/59.94 format.

I’m just a notalentwannabe but I would try a Resolve to AVID to Resolve offline/online round trip if it were me.

I’m going to have to read up on how that works. I know resolve for grading, but haven’t used it for that before.
