  Avid Media Composer 6 on 5400rpm drive

  Hello CC masses,

  I just purchased a new 15″ Macbook Pro with all top specs except I got a 5400rpm internal drive. I will be needing to install Avid Media Composer 6 here soon, and was wondering if I got an eSata port and used an eSata 7200rpm external drive to store the media, if I will have any issues with any of the functionality of Avid MC given they list their internal HD requirements list as 7200rpm minimum. I am trying to avoid the hassle of switching out the internal drive since I just got everything installed (except Avid). I never store media on the internal drive, so how much will my 5400rpm drive play a factor? i.e. will exporting/rendering be effected even if the media is on an eSata drive? or maybe other functions I’m not aware of? Avid newbie here btw…

  The whole system will run notably faster on a 7200rpm drive. Stuff like creating bins, copying files, etc.

  Better yet: get an SSD.
