    Hi,

Before helping me, I would suggest someone watch the tutorial I am trying so they understand better. I am using After Effects 7.0, and I am trying to follow Andrew Kramer’s “104. Shatterize” tutorial here > https://videocopilot.net/tutorials/shatterize/

I am upto the part about adding a mask to the text, I presume he is ussing AE CS5 or CS4. He is key-framing the Mask Path, while I only have Mask Shape. Later on you have to remove the key-frames of the Mask Path so that the text is cut up into 12 different sections. But when I go to remove the key-frames of the Mask Shape, I end up with 12 masks in the same top position. I didnt explain this very well, I am sorry.

The name changed from ‘Mask Shape’ to ‘Mask Path’. They’re the same thing.

There’s detailed information here about animating mask paths.
