This has bothered me for a long time, so I thought I’d ask the experts here.

Why are the graphics I create in the Title Tool of less quality than something I do in AE and then import? I did a test and put an AE title right next to an internally generated (16bit) title tool graphic and the quality difference is marked.

    Why?

When you created your title, what resolution did you set it to? When I’m doing a standard def offline, I find any titles less than DV25 become near unreadable. If you’re working in HD, DNx36 will be fine for offline, but when you’re read to go online, did you select an in to around all titles, and select “Recreate Title Media” and set it to DNxHD175 or 220 (It’s under “Clip” I believe)

    Richard –

I created it originally @ 220 and it just doesn’t look as crisp
as the AE sequence which includes the exact same text. I am
doing this all online using Avid 6.0.

Is there a preferred image format in the Title Tool? Mine is set to
    create a PICT by default…

    Thanks.

On your “video quality menu” (bottom left of the timeline) are you set to yellow/green or green/green?

    Green – Green.

But the difference between the two graphics is the issue – not the overall playback quality, right?

You’re right. I’m not sure. I was trying to exhaust all options, but I’m stumped.

It’s been a while since it’s like this. In SD, it didn’t quite make a difference, but in HD it’s quite obvious.

I always do my titles in AE now, except when it’s for a quick and dirty project.
