March 16, 2012 at 3:11 amHave you checked to make sure the correct tracks are patched and unlocked? Or that your not in record mode? Is it a stereo or mono track?

March 16, 2012 at 3:23 amSounds like you are trying to edit a stereo clip into mono tracks.
Stereo clips can appear as a single track.
To edit the way I think you wish to, you’ll have to modify the clip to split it into L/R individual tracks.
Look in Media Composer Help to learn how Stereo tracks work.

March 16, 2012 at 8:16 amOr make sure you create a stereo destination track in the timeline to edit to.
Stereo tracks show as having two small speaker icons. Mono only have one.Pat Horridge

March 16, 2012 at 1:09 pmhi,
im patched to the correct track. im in record mode. i believe its a mono track. it will only let me cut into track 9. if i cut into track nine it wont let me manually move the track up either….
any thoughts truly appreciated.
thanks!

March 16, 2012 at 1:12 pmah. that might be the answer because the new track i added (track 9) was probably stereo so it cut in perfectly? then the other tracks were mono. maybe ill just delete those tracks and make them stereo as thats where my music will live.
how do i convert the clip? too bad just doesnt do this when i cut it in…im sure theres a reason behind it thought
thanks

March 16, 2012 at 1:17 pmYou can convert a source clip by using the modify command and then multitrack audio.
You can create timeline tracks as mono, stereo, and surround (V6) and you can split a timeline track from stereo or surround to mono. But you can’t convert mono timeline tracks into stereo or surround.
The main reason why is backwards compatability with earlier versions of Media Composer. Don’t forget unlike most NLEs Avid has a strong reputation and history of backwards and forwards compatability and many rely on that.Pat Horridge

March 8, 2013 at 11:20 pmbut is there a click and keystroke to mid pan a mono audio track to centre? I know we could do it in MC 5.5, Cntl or Alt click and it put is at centre. Is the only way to highlight the clip and select clip and center?
thanks
