  • XDCAM Import – tape vs disk label

    Hi,

We’re starting to bring in a bunch of XDCAM footage (through import, not AMA) in Media Composer 6. We’re editing off the proxy files then uprezing for online. On the import process it asks for the Disk Label which is fine and looks like Media Composer can correctly use that information when it’s time to uprez. One of our online editors raised the question that within the Color Correction window in Symphony there is a drop down for Source Tape (along with Clip Name, Master Clip, etc) but not for source Disk Label.

Is there any way to assign a tape name (same as the disk label) so that Symphony can correctly identify clips as being from the same disk during the import process, or is it possible to have Symphony work with the Disk Label metadata instead of the Tape?

    Thanks,
    -Dan

I would send him a clip just to test that out to be sure. My current workflow involves us using AMA to transcode XDCAM discs. We add a tapename to the AMA clips (using the “Modify” command). When those AMA clips are relinked to the discs for online, it does throw away the tape name in favor of the clip source name, but we just add the name back and relink and it’s been fine.
