Activity Forums Avid Media Composer Beginner Question: Three video tracks

  • Beginner Question: Three video tracks

I’m new to Media Composer 6 (familiar with Sony Vegas Pro and so probably coming at this from entirely the wrong angle!) and trying to combine three video tracks: V1: a spinning logo [.avi], V2: a textual title and V3: a backdrop created using an image imported using Pan and Zoom.

If all went well the first two would overlay the third: logo and title on backdrop. In reality, the third track replaces the other two. If I don’t monitor V3 the other two coexist as they should.

I’m probably missing something really basic here and would be grateful for help.

the Backdrop needs to be on a track lower than the overlays. If I understand what you are describing correctly, you want the backdrop on V1. Everything else lays on top. You are exactly backwards. 🙂

Avid always looks from the upper most video track down to the base track, V1. If you want to see your background, it must be on V1, and all tracks above that, V2, V3, etc. must have alpha’s or be keyable, allowing you to see through/past them.
