I’m back to Avid after many years – originally I owned an AVBV system. The biggest struggle for me is understanding the new “MXF” media and its various workflows. I’d appreciate a pointer to any resources, books or web that could help.

In particular, I’m wondering if After Effects will now import Avid media directly or is it necessary to render out to an Avid codec QT file and import that? I’m presently on MC 5.5 and AE CS4.

As a less important issue, is it possible to somehow transcode old OMF media (Avid MC Xpress vintage) into MXF media to import into a current MC?

In order to export clips to AE, you can export quicktime references which are incredibly quick. To get a sequence over you can use an AAF and Automatic Duck plugins.

Avid can still read and create standard def OMF media. No need to convert.

Andrew thanks for the reply and info.

Also, I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to call attention to an excellent post on Shane Ross’ blog which really helped me out:
