MC 6 Apple Color workflow
Posted by Ben Edwards on January 14, 2012 at 1:52 pmHi,
One of the technicians at University has suggested digitising in FCP and then editing in Avid so we can use Apple colour. What do people think?

January 14, 2012 at 3:26 pmwhat did you shoot on?
it makes little difference in most cases where you digitize.
more important is proper ingest to your Avid.finishing Avid projects in Color is a very frequent procedure
and with the recent free AutoDuck pack it even becomes simpler.
also look into Da Vinci Resolve Lite.

January 14, 2012 at 7:47 pmThanks, how does resolve lite compare to color? It looks excellent but I cant find any comparative reviews.
Also are you saying one of the free plug-in allows Avid projects to be imported into Apple Colour?

January 14, 2012 at 8:07 pmagain… what are you shooting on?
yes, you have a plugin by Automatic Duck that allows bringing a project from avid to FCP and then color
Resolve Lite can take AAFs from Avid, but is limited (in the Lite version) to HD projects
both are good grading tools.
most important question is… what does your colorist prefer.

January 15, 2012 at 3:40 amYou don’t need the duck. Export a QuickTime movie from Avid. Also export an EDL. Import the QT and EDL into Color. Color will chop up the QT.
Color correct. Render. Send to FCP. Then output from there, or export a QT to AMA back into Avid.
