  Dongle situation question with MC6 software upgrade

  I have downloaded the MC6 update for Mac and was reading the PDF Installation guide linked to at https://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=423775 and am concerned about losing my dongle facility.

  Because this is a software upgrade it appears I have to deactivate my dongle. On page 26 of the guide it says:

  9. The system asks if you are sure you want to deactivate your dongle. Click OK.
  The Activation tool confirms your system information. When the activation is complete, a message informs you that your software has been successfully activated.

  I need to use the software either on my Mac desktop or on my PC laptop on location, which is the idea of using a dongle.

  How does the software license work. Do I have to deactivate on the Mac before using it on the PC and vice-versa or can I still use my dongle?

  Looking forward to using the mew MC6 but need to know the rules.

  Scott,

  If you like the dongle, as I do, keep it. You don’t need to go to the software license. You will need to get a new avd. file from Avid. Look at page 23 for instructions. What is missing from this page is how to get that new .avd file.

  In the download folder there is a dongle manager program, run that, and “Scan Update File”. If you have the updated file from Avid, it will show you 6.0. At that point you can click on the Update tab.

  Your dongle will always be backward compatible, so you could still use it to run 5 or 5.5 before upgrading your system.

  Thanks to your link I have successfully updated the dongle. I have opened up MC v5.5.1 and the license on the opening page says dongle, so it has worked fine.

  Note to others: the dongle update asks for an “activation code”. This is the same as the “software licence number” you are given when you upgrade.

  Tomorrow I plan to uninstall v5.5 and install v6. I am concerned that material off a SxS card from an EX3 will not work as an AMA on v6, but that is for another thread.
