AVID Unity Media Offline issue after trashing databases
Hi AVID experts. I just took over as an assistant editor on a show, and we are 6 episodes deep. There have been 2 previous AEs… We are on 2 PC-based Avids running MC v5.5.1. We are also on a Unity, with administration tool 4.2.4 190. All the Unity drives are within the allowed limit of both percent used, and number of files. Here’s the issue: There were a number of files offline on a few of the episodes (common sound effects). Knowing that the show has been going for about 6 weeks, I thought it might be time to trash the databases and let AVID rebuild them, so I trashed the PMR and MDB files. This caused two whole episodes to go offline! I need them back really soon! Needless to say, a rough first day on the job.
When I was doing this, I noticed that on some of the Unity drives, there were folders within the MXF folder called “system1”, “system2”, and “1”.
My first question is to ask why there is a folder for each editing system, and then an additional folder named “1”? Is this problematic or normal?
My second question is to ask why on some of the Unity drives, the folders are named “system1.1” and “system 2.1” and some of the names have no decimal… is that normal?
My third question is to ask what to do when I notice that the c: drive (system drive) on both editing systems have media folders (MXF and OMFI). Should I copy this media to a proper unity drive, or just leave it be?
My fourth question is this: how can I get back my offline media? I know it’s not gone, but on episodes 1 and 2, it’s not linking after rebuilding all my databases. I have tried to use the media tool to find the media, and I’ve tried relinking.
It’s odd to me that only two episodes are behaving this way, and I’m curious to understand why. If any of you have any light to shed, it would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
