  • Matrox MXO2 LE Software Disables Avid 5.5.3, or life after FCP 7.

So I finally get Media Composer after doing the FCP crossgrade. I install it on my Mac Pro 8 core (5,1) with 20 GB of memory running OS X 10.6.4. I have software (version 2.0) for my Matrox MXO2 Max installed.

I start MC for the first time and startup quits when it gets to “Configuring Digital I/O Subsystem” and throws a ‘”Segmentation fault” in Thread “Main Thread”, at address 0x0’ So I do some standard Mac troubleshooting things like repairing permissions etc. Nothing helps.

Given the point at which the MC startup quits, I get the idea the MXO2 software could be an issue and uninstall it. MC then starts right up without any trouble. So it appears that the Matrox software prevents MC from starting up or MC refuses to start up in its presence (reading through the crash report, I think it’s the latter). I knew the two could not be used with one another as of yet, but had no idea MC would be crippled by the mere presence of the Matrox software. Disappointment. Puzzling since the Matrox Mini is supported.

Anyone know of a way to get Matrox software and MC to reside on same machine without interfering with one another besides setting up a dual boot system?

I’m running both. Just load the latest drivers for the Matrox. Not sitting in front of the machine now, but I think it was 2.2.3 or something like that. Works like a champ in both MC 5.5.3 and FCP 7.

Chris….he’s talking about the MXO2 LE…NOT the Mini. The problem isn’t with his system with the MIni, but that the drivers for the LE are interfering with the Avid software.

My question is, why have this on the Avid system if it isn’t compatible with Avid (yet?)? So you can capture with the Matrox software, then import into Avid MC?

Or because he is still using FCS, as well. I am. FWIW, MC doesn’t seem to have any problems with my Blackmagic drivers. It just ignores them.

Yes, still using FCS and Premiere as well. I was hoping to get everything on one disk.

But, having considered it a bit longer, I think I just going to set up an AVID system drive and go the dual boot route. Probably less trouble in the long run and drives are cheap.

I should add that I have an MX02 and Wolfgang’s suggestion let me boot up MC without disconnected my Matrox box.

1000x thanks Lee! That advice works the trick. AVID now starts up just fine in the presence of the Matrox software.

Makes sense. The flamethrower was listed in the crash report.

Also might want to note that MC 5.5.3 is meant for OSX 10.6.8. I’m not expert in these matters, but I know that a lot of OpenGL code changed in that release which caused issues for both Avid and Adobe… so MC 5.5.3 was specifically designed to address these issues on 10.6.8 …just sayin.

Wanted to chime in that this solution works like a charm.

I have MC 5.5.3 on OS X 10.6.8, and FCS and now Premiere Pro running on the same tower. As soon as I installed my Matrox MXO 2 LE, Avid wouldn’t load. I removed “MacFlamethrowerMXO2.bundle ” and things work like a charm.

Thanks a million! Was starting to tear my hair out over this!
