i recently jumped from my meridien system to a modern media composer 5.53 with an aja i/o express box. i’m trying to digitize via hd-sdi from my sony hvr-1500. the sony deck outputs hdv as 1080i60. the aja i/o control panel sees it as 1080i29.97. are they are the same thing with a different naming convention (ie. sony is referring to 60 fields and the aja is referring to 29.97 fps)? my avid project only has choices for 1080i59.94 and 1080p30. the avid shows a very distorted signal when i choose 1080i59.94. am i doing this right? i’m concerned that the avid won’t accept the hd-sdi signal from my deck and will only accept 1080i at a higher frame rate.

    thanks for your help, josh

1080i/59.94 (sometimes rounded off to 60) is 29.97 frames per second.

    It’s 59.94 fields per second.
