I’m working on an archiving project and have 2500 hours of D3 tape that I need to create three files from. Motion JPEG, h264, and avid IMX 50 file structures with aaf pointers. Simple right? The plan was to capture either the mjpeg or an uncompressed source via Kona LHi and vtr exchange and use Rhozet to transcode into the remainder of the proxies. No issue here until we starting testing the Avid files by linking the Rhozet created aaf and playing back. All the subcarrier info below 0 ire is gone… A lot of noise had been added everywhere and the levels are way off. Colorspace issue, right? Wrong. Same result in both Rgb and 601. Rhozet? Nope.. Importing into avid from uncompressed or mjpeg causes same issue when playing back avid created files. Let’s look at the source… Perfect playing back from fcp and avid when using AMA. Capturing direct to Avid is perfect. It’s all in the avid toolkit that’s doing the transcode. The very sam toolkit that Rhozet uses to create the mxf files.

Let’s look at other sources, dvcam, no issue, digi beta no issue, hdcam, no issue. Beta SP same issue but less pronounced.

Done this using 3 different analog to digital converters. Every codec you can imagine and analog directly into the Kona. Same result every time or worse.

I could capture on avid and kona at same time but client won’t be happy with that price change at this volume.

    Any ideas?
