New Avid MC Interface Revealed
Posted by Fliques Osman on August 4, 2011 at 10:25 pmAvid is showing off their new interface to their upcoming Media Composer. Also added is 64 bit support, new DNxHD codec, ability to work in higher resoultion then 4k, and support for AJA, Blackmagic, Bluefish I/O. Should be interesting, since they are really trying to grab the editors who have abandoned FCP. Photos and videos here: https://www.fliquesosman.com/?p=688

August 5, 2011 at 12:57 amWho knows? When they are done. They don’t give targets. Because testing might reveal that they need to fix a lot…or a little.

August 5, 2011 at 12:36 pmYup ! yuh got that right. Im just happy i have a serious option with My kona now….. sorry but i love my Kona.
Just hope its as easy to set up like FCP7 with “easy setups”
At least i can open my old FCP projects by XML-ing them into MC.Does the DNX codec have a 444 version like prores that can handle alphas ?

Uh…no, you can’t. Avid doesn’t do XML…import or export. The only way to get a SEQUENCE (not full project) into an Avid MC is via Automatic Duck. And that doesn’t do the full project…just the sequence. You are thinking of Premiere Pro…that will take in a full FCP project via XML.
Sorry, Avid doesn’t do that.

That is coming with Media Composer 6.

“To be clear, the 444 is supposed to be coming with 6. All DNxHD codecs currently support alphas, unlike ProRes (which only supports alpha with 4444).

August 6, 2011 at 12:00 amOK so that was scary…
Just downloaded a trial version of MC and after starting it up i actually rememberd most of the keyboard commands …… no i dont have a colored avid keyboard .. LOL
The last time i edited on an Avid MC was back in the ABVB days in 2000, wow. I was truly an AVID snob back then, i spit on version 1.0 of FCP .
ahh the good old days

August 6, 2011 at 12:46 am@Nigel LOL… same here, when ever I return to Avid I find that I can just dive in and start cutting (keyboard) . I think that’s a testament to Avid’s workflow.
