    Hi Guys

I’ve just bought MC 5.5 with the intention of installing it on my Macbook Pro (as an alternative to the FCP that I already have). One of the strands of work that I’m hoping to get would involve transferring data between my Avid and a facility house who have their Avids on PCs, so media would be on NTFS drives for example.

With that in mind, would it be worth installing the Avid on a windows partition on my MBP? Does anyone know if there would be any problems doing that, or will the Mac version work ok with media digitised on a PC?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts anyone has.

The media has no issues going back and forth, same for projects and bins. Your only consideration is mounting drives back and forth between PC and Mac.

I have now started using exFAT formatting as I am on 10.6.6 on Mac, and Win7 on my PC. There is no need for additional software on either side to mount HFS or NTFS and it does not have the drive size limitation of FAT32. Perfect for transporting back and forth.

    Hey Michael,

Quick question, I’m mainly a PC guy but was involved in a job recentley where we had to consoladate our sequences onto a mac formatted drive (the avid on the other end was a mac pro). Always ran into issues’s with the database files not being able to update themselves. (so i had to do a few work arounds to get what I needed done) I always assumed it was something in the drive formatting

anyway, can Vista 64 pro, read the “exfat” formatted mac drive?

Yes, Vista and Win7 work with it out of the box. Win XP has an updater to support it from Microsoft.

Thanks for all that. I reckon that I’ll install in OSX but also make a windows section on my mac with Parallels (just because there’s a couple of little things it’ll be useful for) and format my external drive(s) in ExFat.

As I recall (and I haven’t tested it recently) the video card driver that apple designed under bootcamp driver doesn’t really work well with MC under windows on a MBP>
