  Panning Tracks in Avid

  Hi there. This is a relatively simple one – but has our little cutting room baffled.

  We are on Avid 5 and we are having an occasional issue in our timeline with panning tracks… not the whole audio track – just parts.

  I am trying to pan some tracks to the right on A7. They are currently panned Left. They are not all in a row, they are spaced out in the cut and amongst other sound clips successfully panned right.

  Matching back to the track – it is centered. There are a few of us working on the show and a couple of editors, so I am sure someone has deliberately moved the tracks to the left in the cut, but they now seemed locked. It is doing the Assisting heads in as none of us can nut this out.

  The bin is not locked, so I have write-access.

  Any ideas, please?

  If you are set to Direct Out in the Audio Tool, everything is mono..there is no panning. Is someone set that way?

  Also, there is an Audio setting in the User settings where you can choose to center pan everything or leave them L/R. check that someone’s user settings are not configured for center pan.

  Also, you didn’t specify whether you were using Automation (aka rubber banding keyframes) to do your track panning or doing it on a clip by clip basis in the mixer. You may need to make your Automation keyframes visible in your timeline to see what is really going on.
