  • Missing Clips – “exception no compression data format found for specified vcid and video format”

    Hi.

Im new to Avid and have just started working on a new test project. All was going well until I came to reopen the project today, my clips are on the timeline but in the project monitor all I have is a black sceen with the message “exception no compression data format found for specified vcid and video format”.

I’ve tried relinking the clips but to no avail. I tried starting another project to see if it was a problem with that particular project but when I came to import the clips I had the same problem.

The clips are all in the same folder as they were when I started and as far as I can tell I haven’t changed anything (well I guess I obviously have, but I can’t work out what!)

Is there anything I can do to recover the work I have done or am I gonna have to go back to square one?

    Cheers!

I would suggest listing the specs of your computer, MC version, quicktime version, project type, and the codecs of the files youa re putting in the sequence.

Is it safe to assume you are using AMA?

    Hi.

Im afraid I can only give you some basic details at the mo…

Yeah Im using AMA, the clips are 1080p .mov files straight off my camera and the project settings match this. I’m using quicktime 7.

Everything was working fine until I saved the bin, closed the project and tried to reopen it.

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

I think we’re going to need a lot more than that…codec, computer specs, MC and QT version, etc.

    Hi Michael

Are you saying that there are circumstances in which AMA misbehaves? If so, it would be great to hear what these might be.

    Thanks.

Definitely, AMA is a relatively new feature to the Avid product line (only about a year or so now) and because it’s an open architecture, there are some hiccups. Quicktime is a VERY OLD technology, and there are hundreds of codecs and formats. Avid, via AMA, is now open to this, and attempting to deal with this task can sometimes yield problems.

Usually, AMA works great, but there are occasional problems….hence Creative Cow 🙂
