  AVID to QT Pro Res 422 and keeping timecode

  Hello.

  We are getting our scanned 16mm footage as digital AVID files for editing. Having no experience of AVID and preferring Final Cut I would like to export a Quicktime Pro Res file from Avid.

  I do however need to keep the timecode of the material so that I can create an EDL that will work for online. My question is if the export from Avid in QT Pro Res keeps the timecode on the material so that this process will work. Otherwise I need to sit down and learn Avid which will be a long process.

  Appreciate the help.

  Unless you have FCP installed on the same system, you cannot export ProRes, just read it.

  Apple does not make the encoder available without FCP.

  Thanks for the replies, I have Fcp installed on the same system. Really want to continue using Fcp as I find it much simpler and easier than Avid.

  I don’t know, but i do know that i have feature making clients.
  (I’ve developed stuff to decode VITC and create QT files for Avatar…)

  This is IT stuff, and has all the madness any IT work has.
  If you are doing a feature, work like it. Meaning, test before commititing yourself to a given workflow, and whatever you do, do NOT ‘upgrade’ mid project to find out that your prooven tested workflow now suddenly does not work anymore.

  I can guarantee that my stuff works, if you get it to work.
  I cannot guarantee that it will work with any version of any given OS suffering from any kind of virusses or other mandness that can occur.

  So yes, it works, and no, it is a piece of crap, like any piece of software…

  again, this is IT stuff, and it follows other rules than your cat that will eat any food available *if there is nothing better..)

  Does that make sense to you?
