AMA link to a DVD
Posted by Scott Davis on March 29, 2011 at 11:38 pmIs it possible to AMA link to a DVD (screener or archival material so no copywright)? I would then transcode to whatever I needed.

March 30, 2011 at 1:16 amNo, AMA does not recognize a DVD file structure (nor the raw format of the MPEG) as acceptable.
If this is a personal burned DVD, and not copyrighted, then your best bet is to rip the disc or play out of a DVD into the Avid. Since it has no protection on it, you should be fine.
BTW, since when are screeners not copyrighted? I’m sure if I were to rip or use my academy screeners, I’d be in a world of hurt if I was caught.

March 30, 2011 at 3:15 pmBad phrasing on my part. Yes it is copyrighted material. A “screener” from a stock footage library that we use as a temp file and then when the edit is finalized we purchase the rights to the master and cut that in for the broadcast. A lot of houses are sending their stock footage on DVDs.
