I’m curious what methods people use to deal with multi-camera interview footage.

I generally create a sync sequence with both cameras and then turn to that to cut from. Is a multi-cam sequence more efficient? Is there a way to integrate it with ScriptSync?

Also, I have a few interviews where the audio doesn’t quite match the other camera – it’s like half a frame off. Is there a way to manipulate it to make it sync better?

    Thanks!

If you can sync the cameras quickly I tend to find multicam feature more efficient than A-B’ing two sources. For three or more cameras it’s definitely more efficient.

Haven’t used ScriptSync and have not repurchased it with MC5 upgrade.

I have perceived a slight drift from time to time in sync, even with both cameras fed from the same source. Sometimes it seems to be there and then upon subsequent playback it plays in sync. I’ve never figured the cause and have only had it happen once in the last few months.

If you upgraded MC5 from MC4, you get ScriptSync for free. You need to get the license as part of the upgrade process.

Just something to be aware of when using multi-cam.

If you offline then go to online, make sure you select your sequence, right click and select “commit multicam edits” before you begin to batch digitise/conform. Otherwise Avid will digitise ALL the clips used in the group, even though you only want the finished cut.

I hadn’t thought of that; thanks for the tip!
