    Hello,

The company I am working for is considering buying a shared storage system for their Avid workflow and I just had some questions about possible solutions.

We are renting out the system for a feature film. They will be using 3 Avid Symphonies with Nitris DXs. We are looking at either Unity, EditShare, or TerraBlock right now (though other suggestions are fine).

Price isn’t a large issue, though obviously we want to go with the best deal for our money. We also want to go with something that will last, we’ve had a lot of problems before buying something only to find something significantly better within a few months.

I’ve heard praise for EditShare and TerraBlock for the fact that they work under a RAID5 system, so protection of our Data is great.

I guess if anyone could give me a good pro/con for each and make a good suggestion for us, that would be great.

TerraBlock, hands down. Unity and interplay are just too limited and clunky. The only downside I have seen to TerraBlock at all is waiting 10 seconds or so per imported clip due to networking. It’s sound, stable and it works. You’ll not hear the same for the other solutions you listed.

I would definitely suggest Unity. Forget Interplay unless you’re a newsroom or something.

Unity is rock solid and Avid supported.
