I’m exporting a series of EDLs form Avid to import into FCP, which I have working fine. But the problem is that the clip names don’t match up with what they should be (and thus I can’t reconnect the clips in FCP). I’m wondering if there are any settings I need to use in EDLManager to preserve the clip names.

I believe that EDLs truncate names, because it is VERY OLD technology, meant for old linear systems that had limits.

Automatic Duck does this conversion well. Export an AAF (newer technology) from the Avid and import that into FCP via the Duck. Works like a charm.

Can you be more specific about the problem you are seeing?

File16 and File32 EDL templates at least give you the option to have un-truncated source tape/file names.

Duplicate Name column into Labroll. Add labroll as comment into EDL (new with v5). his was done to create FCP compatible EDL’s for Color but FCP should like them as well.

The names aren’t really being truncated, they’re just not being named correctly. Here’s a screen shot of the bin: https://cl.ly/292X

I’m going to try your approach and see if I can put the names in a different column instead of the name column and see if it will work.
