  • What UPS do you use to power your bay?

Posted by Ryan Kanga on July 28, 2010 at 6:21 am

I’m putting a basic edit bay together — CPU, Adrenaline, broadcast monitor, 2 LCD monitors, mixing board, etc…

And am trying to figure out what model UPS to get. I’ve read bad reviews of the TrippLites and am confused by the number of models that APC has.

So I thought I would throw the question to you guys and ask what model UPS you use. Are you happy with it? Is it loud? Has it been reliable?

    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply.

APC seems to have a number of different versions of the 1500 Smart UPS:

Do you know what the specific model number is?

    Thanks again.

    For example:

APC Smart-UPS 1500VA USB & Serial UPS. You can get a rack mount version or a standalone.

I can second the APC units. We use the 1400RM. Make sure you budget for battery replacement. We get 3 to 4 years use from a set a batteries.

    APC SUA1500RM2U

    B&H Part # AP1500RM

    This is what everyone uses.

Thank you everybody for your replies. I just ordered an APC.

I’m also looking for LCD monitors. I’ve been looking at the Dell U2410 but the reviews just seem so bad on these.

Anybody have an LCD monitor that they love?

Lastly, I’m checking out sync generators. Any thoughts on the AJA GEN 10?

Thanks so much for all of your advice.

The mixing board is pretty obvious — Mackie VLZ3 — but any recommendations on speakers? Or a good microphone for voiceover?

I have a JVC DT-V24L1DU as my broadcast monitor and a Sony XBR-970 as my client monitor.
