  File conversion WITHOUT new software

  Ok, so here’s the deal:

  I work for a government department that is in constant need of file conversions and other little tasks like that (at the moment i need an .asf video file converted to .avi or some other AVID-Compatible format.) The one difficulty we have, however, is that we are not allowed to purchase software, or computer hardware. to do so, we have to go through our IT department, which is usually a long process. Long story short, does ANYONE know of ANY other way to get these little tasks done? maybe other government-media employees out there? I NEED HELP!!!

  With the IT rulers reigning over your land do you have to capacity to download software or will that land you in the stocks?

  That’s like saying “We need you to type up all these forms, but we won’t give you a computer or a typewriter to do it. Unless you give us a request in triplicate, and 6 months to deliver the supplies. But we need the forms by next week.”

  Friggin government. How can you do your job if your hands are tied? You can’t do any conversions without software…and not all of it is free.
