  Issues with Offline 24P in 23.98 NTSC

  Repost from Avid Community forums, just trying to get some help as soon as possible.

  Delivery Format: 1080P/23.98
  Cameras: HDX-900
  Shoot format: 24P Advanced
  Downconvert to MiniDV for offline digitizing (I don’t know what settings or decks being used for this process)
  Offline Edit Format: 23.976
  MediaComposer Version 12.1.1 (yes, I know, old old OLD!)

  My issue is that despite setting 00:00:00:00=A in Film Settings, it only functions properly for the first clip generated. Pullin=A and frames end with 0 or 5. Every clip across a timecode break generated afterward, fails to set Pullin=A and frames are not 0 or 5. For whatever reason it forces all subsequent clips to Pullin=C and generally frame ends with 4.

  I’m hoping there is a way to remedy this problem to avoid the log/batch or dig/modify/batch methodology. It’s just too slow for our show which shoots for 30 days straight, averaging 70 tapes per day.

  Any help with a better workflow, remedy to problem, or even a ‘Hey, you’re stuck with the old ingest method due to X Y Z’ is greatly appreciated.

  The following is the info I was given to familiarize myself with the project before starting:

  We are using Avid Media Composers/OSX Meridians. (12.1.1) We will eventually upgrade to Avid DX systems, but likely after the digitizing is completed, unfortunately.

  Since the final delivery is a 1080P 24 frame non-drop master, we are primarily shooting 24P-advanced, with some 24P and 30i mixed in. We are mainly using Panasonic HDX900 cameras, with some Varicam, a Phantom Camera that shoots to a hard drive, and some Robotic cameras that only shoot 30i. We are editing in a 24 frame sequence, so to prevent flickering/pulsating picture, we are digitizing all of the tapes by first logging them and starting every clip on the 00, 05, 10, 15, or 20 frame. This is a bit time consuming because some cameramen will shoot ten to fifteen clips on a single source tape.

  Is “A” frame set to 00:00:00:00 in the Film/24p settings and active?

  Yes, the A frame set to 00:00:00:00.

  I’m pretty sure the problem is that the version of MediaComposer is so old (12.1.1) that the Film Settings tab hasn’t yet to be updated to include 24P Advanced Pulldown as an option. As a result, the pullin is set A for the first clip, but fails to count properly and messes up every clip afterward.

  Hopefully I’m mistaken, and it can get fixed because digitizing this many tapes with this method is way too slow.
