Stopping an Energy Plot
Hey there-
Is there a shortcut to prevent AVID from finishing its energy plot? It just locks up the whole system until it goes through every damn audio clip. Or… is there a feature like Premiere, where it doesn’t show the energy plot (waveform) unless I’m zoomed in to a small enough section?
Accidentally opening a long sequence and waiting for the software to open the energy plot is excruciating. I can feel the fury building.
I’m using Media Composer v4.XXXX It’s the latest one, but I can’t see its number since it’s locked up right now, analyzing track 4 of 16 audio tracks I have. It’s been at this for 10 minutes already.

On a PC, hit Ctrl and .
On a Mac, try Cmd and .
You can also go to your Timeline settings (I think – not in front of a system right now) and turn on Show Marked Waveforms. It will only show waveforms/energy plots between your In and Out points on your timeline.

CMD + . didn’t work for me, I tried it a lot.
I usually just hit H to zoom in and let the system energy plot the few seconds, but this time, man, it locked up my system for 40 minutes!

Glad Marked Waveforms worked for you.
To figure out what the “cancel” command for redrawing waveforms on a Mac, render something and look at the lower right of the render progress bar. It should show “Cmd+.” or “Ctrl+. to cancel”. If it’s not there, just watch the render bar – on my PC it flashes up when a new render starts, then disappears. Whatever keystrokes it says should be the universal cancel in Avid, stopping renders, waveform redraws, etc… Not sure why it didn’t work.

I was mashing CMD + . furiously for about ten minutes to try to cancel it. I tried every combination I could. Unless it doesn’t work when it detects seething anger, it doesn’t work on my machine.

LOL. I think the seething anger feature was added in version 3.
I’ve had it not work before too, but never figured out why. Maybe pull up a short clip and try it again. Make sure the timeline is active when you turn on the sample plot/energy plot. Although maybe it only works with the sample plot?

The CMD + . has worked since, I’ve tried it out a few times on smaller sequences. Also, simply playing the timeline will stop it sometimes.
Maybe I had such a large timeline that it just couldn’t handle it, like a ram thing.
