I am having a problem with the Avid FX in my Media Composer system. I’m running MC 4.0.3 and use Avid FX for my graphic work. It’s mostly used for quick motion graphics such as moving a picture or simple text on a screen. But here’s the problem I’m having. About two weeks or so ago whenever I would be making adjustments to position, scale, rotation, etc with the mouse wheel in the numbers box next to the sliders, all of a sudden multiple layers would snap together and move. It’s almost like a magnet just pulled them together. If I’m adjusting in Y space, everything goes to the layers Y space parameter and begins moving. It happens with any adjustment parameter so it’s not specific to just one. I’m working with individual layers and not a folder with layers. It still happens within folders too though. It even happens when the layers are locked or unlocked.

I talked to Avid support and they have no idea what to do. I deleted the Avid FX.ini file, that didn’t work. I reinstalled Avid FX and that didn’t work either. The tech was watching my desktop and when it happened, he had never seen this before and couldn’t find anyone else that has seen or heard of this problem either.

Anyone have any suggestions short of reinstalling everything?

You’ll find anytime you have to call in, Avid has not seen it before. Kind of makes assurance worthless.
Outside of reinstalling, man, I’d say just us After Effects. It’s quicker, more powerful and prettier.

What version of Avid FX are you on? What OS?

I’m using Avid FX 5.8 on Media Composer 4.0.3. It’s on an HP xw8600 Workstation running Windows XP service pack 2.

Have you tried using a different mouse or a Wacom tablet? Re-installing the mouse or tablet drivers? Seems like there is something weird happening with the “mouse wheel” areas where you adjust values.

I’m using the standard HP mouse that came with the computer. When the Avid technician connected to my system he was able to make the same thing happen on his end. And he was using his mouse. I don’t think it’s a mouse issue. It feels like software related. I even tried reinstalling just Avid FX and that didn’t work.

I see. I was trying to run the problem to ground before delving into the software itself.

    Dirk, are you out there?

Is it possible to grab some screen shots of the behavior.

I’d be interested to see the behavior.
