  I have looked all over the internet and through the avid manual but i can not find anything on doing a split screen does anyone know a good site i could go to for free or any advice??

  Video on V1. Add a Picture in Picture effect. Move it to the left/right/top/bottom (however you want to do your split screen). Either scale it or crop it.

  Video on V2, directly above V1. Apply a Picture in Picture effect, move to the other side of the screen from V1, scale or crop.

  That should be all you need to do.
