  • How does Avid handle rendered clips?

    Hello,

I am a FCP user wondering how MC3/3.5 handle rendered clips. Specifically, when you render a clip in the timeline, can you then change the location of the clip within the timeline without re-rendering? (On FCP6/7 you cannot).

    Thanks,
    Chris

Yes, if the entire span of the clip is moved, it will stay rendered. If any dependent relationships are changed during that move, it will need to be re-rendered.

[Chris Davis] “when you render a clip in the timeline, can you then change the location of the clip within the timeline without re-rendering?”

Yup. And if you move the clips…say you have layers…and then move them back…the render returns. You don’t need to UNDO. And Avid will connect partial renders too.

UH…I can. If I move a rendered set of clips from one part of the timeline to another, the render stays. Unless you put it on top of other clips…then the render goes away.

    Michael and Shane,
    Thanks for your quick replies.

Yeah, it seems dependent on what I am doing with the rendered file. I just played around with FCP and I could not find some of the problems with rendered moving files that I was referring to before. I guess I still don’t know all the “rules” of FCP yet.

    Thanks again,
    Chris
