Identifying Aspect Ratio -anamorphic etc
I’ve been working on projects lately where source material arrives in many different aspect ratios, sometimes 4:3, 16:9, sometimes anamorphic, sometimes not, etc etc. My sequences are to be delivered in 16:9 as that is what we shoot our original material in, and I’m supposed to have everything in the sequence in a uniform aspect ratio. I know how to adjust any type of clip if I can tell what format its in, but our suite has a small client monitor and sometimes its difficult to tell whether footage is “squeezed” or not. Is there a way, other than by eye, to determine what the aspect ratio of a given clip is?
I’m working on AVID Media Composer.

Not really. Although I always playout tapes with countdown clocks that contain a circle (so it’s more easy to tell) as well as the format designation (16F16, 16L12 and so forth).

when I’m in doubt of the aspect ratio, I like to change the record monitor from 4×3 to 16×9 (right click on the record monitor for the option) then just pick which on looks the best.
