Creating clips from imported file (M2T)
Hello, I’m using Media Composer 4.0 (Win) and I have some footage taken with a Canon HV30 on the 24F setting. I transcoded using TMPGenc to remove pulldown and brought the resulting M2T into Avid using fast import. I dropped it into my source window and tried to set In and Out points. That’s when I got a message, “Media for offline slide was not found.” BTW, I couldn’t run it in the source window, either. (It froze on the first frame.) I ignored the message and just clicked on arbitrary in and out points (since I could only see the first frame) and then added that selection to my timeline. The selected portion showed up in the output window, and played just fine. However, without the ability to see where I am applying the in and out points, that doesn’t do me much good. Can anyone suggest what I need to do? I’ve had to go through this process because I had capture issues with this tape. Thanks!

Try checking the Quality icon at the bottom portion of your timeline.

Interesting … I tried all three settings (Full Quality, Draft Quality, and Best Performance) but I get the popup error message regardless. And it appears repeatedly, usually whenever I click anywhere in the Source window.
I’m also getting this error messages while Media Composer is loading:
Exception. ‘omfiHPDomain_INIIT_FAILED’
An error occurred loading database
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Avid Media Composer\Avid\MediaFiles(It appears twice in succession, and I have just clicked through it each time.)
I am wondering if that has anything to do with the other issue? It doesn’t look like something I want to see, at any rate.

This tells me that you’re storing your data to your C drive. It’s recommended that you store media to an external drive – not USB, but something that can maintain a higher data rate.
Your media database file may be corrupted. Check out this thread for info on how to delete your database files.

That’s the way I thought I had this set up. My system drive and my launch drive are two partitions on a 1TB internal SATA. Then I have another internal 1TB SATA (Drive T) and an external PCI-Express RAID 0 (Drive V). Anyway, I deleted the two DB files, as well as one called MCState (in the Settings folder). I restarted Avid and there were no projects listed. I browsed over to my “T” drive, and there was an Avid Projects folder there, and my project. I selected it, Avid finished opening, and all the problems were gone. I could add in and out points in the source window, drop the clip into the timeline, play it back at full resolution, etc.
I would like to set up Avid to save all media files to “T,” capture to “V”, and lock out the “C” (system) and “P” (launch) partitions on the other interal drive, but I don’t recall where (or exactly how) to do that. I couldn’t find a menu option for updating my user profile. BTW, there still seems to be media on the C drive. Again, thanks in advance for any help you could provide.

Go into Settings>Media Creation>Drive Filtering and Indexing, and check “Filter out System Drive”
Then check the other tabs in this preference to set up your other drives. Capture=T, etc. If you click on “Apply to All” it will make all the options (Titles, Import, etc) go to the same drive, not something you want apparently.
As far as the media on the C drive…you can move the files from the “MXF/1” folder on C to one of your other drives “MXF/1” folder. When you restart MC, it will notice a change and will search the media database. Depending on the amount of files, this may take a while. Be sure to move, not copy.
