  Making my Macbook Pro feel more like “home” for editing

  1st time post, long time reader. I work on Avid and Edius systems all day, and finally decided to move from final cut at home to Avid, due to me just prefering the edit system as well as making editing easier when I go home.

  I just got a few bigger projects coming my way, and right now the entire operation is pretty bootleg to say the least. I’m working with a 22 inch Dell HD monitor and a 500 gig seagate usb 2.0 external.

  I was looking to get a

  Sonnet Tempo SATA II ExpressCard/34 Adapter
  -and a-
  Wiebetech Silver SATA II External Enclosure

  for external memory. I’m being told that a usb drive wont cut it for working 100% off the external drives for editing.

  I also was wondering if theres any way to get an external monitor connected? Is it even possible? Right now I’m operating on the newest macbook pros with Nvidia cards. Sorry if my inexperience on the subject makes this harder to answer, but I’ve been editing for years and will definitely provide input on the forums to come.

  Sorry I meant a preview monitor.. But it appears upon more research that isn’t possible.

  Why not get a Mojo?

  USB probably won’t cut it if you are laying off to tape, or doing multiple streams realtime (although I’m sure someone is doing just that, and it’s working fine).
