    Hi,

I’m an editor based in London, I’ve been working for the last 2 years all in FCP. I’m looking to move on to a post house ideally and was wondering how beneficial learning Avid would be and what courses any one would recommend in London to do this.

Any suggestions or advice would be great.

    Cheers, Matt

    Hi Matt,
try Soho Editors, (I’m not sure if they just do FCP or Avid as well),
    or try Skillset.

    Hey Juris,

thanks for response, Soho editors have stopped their avid courses infact quite alot of places don’t do avid anymore even though I’d still say 50% of editing jobs still ask for knowledge of it.

    Hi, Matt.
It’s always good to increase your marketability by knowing as many appas as possible. While more and more jobs are for FCP, there are indeed still a few avid gigs to be had out there, declining as they are. I don’t suggest classes so much as just hopping on and learning at your own pace. You can either intern at a local post house that still boasts Avid suites or today, it’s quite easy just to buy some software and tear into the manual. Your reel )coupled with savvy) is what will get you jobs, not a certifification of any kind. I think you’ll find challeneging yourself in your workflows proves to be a better teacher than sitting through templated classes that may or may not apply to your needs and goals.

Download the Fully functional Trial Version of Media Composer 3.5 from Avid.com, you can try it for two weeks free and hone your chops for your first Avid gig.
