Avid on new OSX Snow
We are buying two new Mac Pro’s to replace our HP Workstations running Avid Adrenaline 2.x. We want to be able to run both FCP and upgrade to the latest Media Composer software. On both systems we are going to have 2 640gig drive’s and 2 1TB drives in each system, each will be split for dual boot to run each application. We are going to use the Deck link HD Extreme for FCP and the Adrenaline for our Avid. Does anyone know of any issue that we might run into with the new version of OSX shipping tomorrow or other issues that might come up?

There’s currently no way to tell if there will be any problems since the OS isn’t out yet, and I’m 100% sure that Avid doesn’t get a prerelease copy for testing. So when it drops tomorrow, don’t expect it to be an approved OS.
That said, maybe it will work fine, maybe it won’t. Can you do a dual boot with an Avid approved OS and Snow Leopard? I’ve heard that you can’t roll back the OS on new Macs, but that could have been false.
Either way, you’re going to want to upgrade from Avid 2.x to 3.5. It will stand the best chance of working on Snow, if it works at all. 2.x is an old version at this point, and I believe the upgrade price is only $300 or $400 dollars, and the improvements are worth every penny.

Save yourself the grief and just install Leopard. As Michael said, no one has Snow Leopard yet so no one can really comment with any accuracy. For me, I’ll wait 6 months or so until the rest of the forum members who do upgrade write here about any bugs they’re experiencing!

Older revisions of the software usually are no longer tested on newer versions of the OS. But current and new versions are likely to be tested. Also, keep an eye on this thread.

We should get our new systems in the next few weeks and they all have snow leopard on them and then an outside company is going to come in and repartition for Avid and the latest 3.x and FCS3. I will let you know what problems come up with installs or anything else like that. Is anyone else running Media Composer and Final Cut on one system and have any tips?
