    Hello,

So I’ll preface this by saying I’m very new to Avid – I’ve been an FCP user for over 5 years but I took an intro to avid class for school. I feel pretty comfortable with the interface, but I’ve had very little practical experience with the program. I’ve now been asked to do a little tightening up of some scenes for a film, which shouldn’t be difficult with what I learned, but I’m having a major issue reconnecting media. The scenes were originally edited on the previous editor’s hard drive and transferred over to the director’s drive (and then those were transferred to mine). Long story short, everything was offline but all the original files were still on the drive, and the only way I could get some of them to reconnect was by reimporting through File -> Link to AMA Volume and selecting all the P2 card folders. The problem was, not all of them reconnected.

I should also say that I did not get the correct “Avid Media Files” folder from the previous editor, or else I’m guessing I could just copy that over and everything would link up. He did tell me that since I have all the raw P2 footage, that I can just select my offline clips, go to batch import, and reimport the P2 files.

I guess this is more of a P2 question.. but I found many of the clips that match up in name with the offline clips in my bin, the only problem is no matter which of the p2 folders I pick to import from (video, clip, etc.), Avid won’t let me import any of them – I tried the xml and the mxf files available. How should I reconnect P2 media? Which files should I use?

Also, is there an easier way to reconnect? It seems like I”ll have to go through one by one, even though many of them are right next to each other in the same folder, and I was wondering if there’s a feature like in Final Cut where you reconnect one and it reconnects all the rest in the same folder.

Sorry if these are easy questions, I’m really hoping they are!
    Thanks!
