Using MC 2.8.3 / Adrenaline to cut a 1080/60i HD project. Having a problem importing one alpha PNG sequence, all others imported fine. Grafx were made in AE CS2. The error I get is:

Exception: ImportHIIP::ReadSamples -‘image’ is NULL after attempting to load animation frame.

I re-exported the sequence from AE to no avail.

    Any clues?

Prolly your codec. Try the meridien uncompressed codec and see what happens. It’s alpha friendly, unlike some of the newer ones.

Thanks Grinner, I had just opened and resaved the PNG sequence from Photoshop when I read your reply. The animation codec was gonna be my next choice. After resaving from PS the Avid imported fine though. I’m on deadline so I’ll chalk the flakiness up to that.

BTW I wonder if Avid ever fixed the crappy alpha channel edges in their Meridien codec?

It’s not the codec… it’s their crappy DVE from 1994. As long as you leave it at native sizes/position, the edges will be clean. Use the DVE… mmm not so much. This is why AE is still used as Avid’s DVE more often than not. I would have though MCv6 would have fixed this. I then thought whent hey went to ten bit it would. It’s in their code and they’ve never seen a reason to fix it. It’s sold LOTS of copies of FCP as a result.
