I’m working an old Avid Meridian v 10.5 and right now I’m looking through old stock footage to add to our movie. The 35mm footage was laid to Betacam SP. I am using a Sony UVX-1800 deck to digitize the clips into the Avid. The Problem is that I know this footage was shot in 16:9, but I don’t know why the footage appear to be 4:3 in the monitor and when I digitize it. I’ve looked all through the Sony UVW-1800 manual and it doesn’t even say a word about aspect ratios and having the ability to crop it. I was wondering if this is an issue in the Avid and how it may possibly be fixed to the footage will match the 16:9 HDcam footage I already have in the system.

    Thanks,
    Adam

Just switch your avid monitors to 16:9 (I forget where it is in the Meridian system – I think it’s in one of the settings). BetaSP is a 4:3 format. Your footage is still 16:9, you just need to ‘stretch’ it. See what I mean by turning your client monitor to widescreen – it will look right…

    Anamorphic? Is that the word?

Thank you for the help. I haven’t used Betacam Sp before and didn’t know it was a 4:3 format.

    Thanks,
    Adam
