  Quick editing fades?

  Hello; you’ll have to except my stupidity, but I’m coming off FCP(yeah, I know, they all say that).

  Anyway, I have applied a cross-dissolve between two clips. I am trying to edit the length of the fade from where it begins on one clip, and lengthen it so it is maybe 3 or 4 seconds longer than the default fade length.

  Is there a quicker way to get into the fade editing menu, other then having the timeline over the fade effect, clicking the “Effect Mode” button, and then clicking the Transition Effect Alignment button at the bottom of the Effect Mode window?

  Is there just a quick button that will bypass all that fun shtuff, so I can just place the timeline over the Fade effect, and go directly to that menu where I can adjust lenght and placement?

  Yes, there is a Quick Transition button. It will allow you to do fades, dissolves, dips-to-color, fades-to-color and fades-from-color at any length, and in the dialogue box you can either type in numbers or drag/move the position of the effect. No need to use Effects mode for any of those.
  I think the default mapping has the Quick Transition button under the Backslash key on your keyboard.

  I appreciate it. Avid is a beast with a nice 600 page printed manual(I hate PDF manuals) that seems to answer every question except the few i’ve had.

  On that note, can you apply more than one audio effect per audio clip without having to mixdown first? Or am I going to have to break out the old DIGI again?

  btw, im on Avid Media Composer on Mac.

  You are screwed on the audio. Avid expects you to edit audio in ProTools, that is the only explanation I can come up with for why they have never fixed the audio editing in MC.

  As for the dissolve, Job is right with the quick dissolve. If you are going to use that same effect over and over though, you can grab the effect icon when you are in effects mode and drag it to a bin. Then just drop it where you want.

  Yeah, thats kinda what I figured, but thats ok, I can deal with that.
