  • Digital Cut Dump out

Posted by Peter Stevens on March 31, 2009 at 1:45 pm

We currently are working with 4 edit suites (3 media composers 3.0.5 & 1 symphony 3.0.5 all connected to a 21 TB Unity with Interplay 1.4.2). When attempting to perform a digital cut the seq will just bump out without an error. This has happened on different projects, with different media from all of our stations. When checking the console we consistently get 1 of 3 errors: VSync error/audio or occasionally video underruns/or dropped frame. Anyone else have these issues or a suggestion to rectify situation?

so much the norm has jokingly become to crash record out.
You can insert tc in a later pass if required. I know it’s cheezy but it beats bangin the ole melon against the wall just trying to make a tape.
I don’t even insert tc anymore. lol I have gotten pretty dadgum accurate in hitting a 1 hour even show start within 5 frames or so.
    lol
gotta make it a game or it’s just no fun.

That is exactly what I’ve been doing – banging my head against the wall. Not sure if I have more than one problem on the system. Avid is saying we need to test to narrow it down to 1 of 3 things. 1. Interplay (they tend to doubt it)
    2. Bad house sync
    3. Throughput issue.

As an added bonus we are now getting video freezes during playback and digital cuts.

    Help!

If you’re getting video underruns and dropped frames it very well could be a throughput issue.

Have you tried duping your sequence and creating an audio and video mixdown, then trying to digital cut that? It takes up a little more space on your storage and some time to make the mixdowns, but may help you narrow in on a solution.

Unfortunately we have tried that trick and we ended up with the same failure rate during the digital cut. We also failed on a crash record, assemble and insert digital cut. What is weird is that it is inconsistent in where it stops during the seq, where the media is living and the number of tracks, effects and titles involved. The only common thread is that it is system wide. Anybody have similar issues.

I’ve never heard of avid blaming house sync before. That’s a reach.
They do get creative sometimes. My favorite response from em is “hmmm, well that otta work.”
    lol yes, It prolly otta.

    Batch capture work ok?
does it in assemble and insert mode?
What happens when you try to lay off just one little test clip with no effects with a digital cut?
    same thing with no audio?
    same thing with JUST audio?

Just tryiong to get down to what stream is cranky…

    this particular time. 😉

Interesting turn of events. I think my issue is the unity. Everytime we attempt to perform a digital cut from media on our unity it bumps out with either a dropped frame or audio underrun. If we then transcode the media to a local drive with new seq it outputs without any issues. Interplay does not seem to be part of the equation as I have successfully output seqs that had media living on local drives and have been checked into Interplay. That being said, does anyone have any input on what would cause the unity to effect digital cuts?
