  Transcoder available for Avid-codec files?

  Hello

  Anyone know of a Transcoder or plug-in that, once installed, allows playback of Avid-coded QuickTime files on a system without an Avid application/program installed?

  Perhaps this is a stupid question, but thanks.

  It will be cause for celebration when the pressure from a shrinking market share will force Avid to move further away from their past (and current) marketing philosophy that has left a bad taste in the mouth of so many people I have dealt with.

  And the QT codec has been available for many years. Unlike the ProRes QT codecs which have been doled out for all platforms, cannot encode on a PC and requires FCP installed on the Mac to encode… quite a difference from the Avid approach. Perhaps one you prefer?
