Activity Forums Avid Media Composer Failure to Launch MC 3.1.1

I am unable to launch Media Composer. It was working fine until the editor shut down to move the dongle to a rear USB port. He re-started the system and now we cannot launch Media Composer. On attempted launch, the hard-drive can be seen to be working, but the first Avid screen never comes up. The drive activity ceases after a short while, with no error message. I have moved the dongle back to the front USB port (shouldn’t really matter??) and tried re-installing the software (twice) to no avail. The dongle works: I have tried it on another machine. Two other points: 1)the editor had a usb memory stick (checked for virus and clean)in a usb port on re-start after moving the dongle and the pc looked for system on this, then indicated the stick should be removed and a re-boot started and 2) after the first launch attempt with drive activity following a re-boot, there is no hard-drive activity with any subsequent launch attempts, as if Avid is already running (It isn’t, I’ve looked in Task Manager). I’m assuming a system corruption, but wonder if there is anywhere I can look to attempt a repair before a system reinstall. System is HPXW8200, MC 3.1.1, WIN XP SP2. Any thoughts? (sorry for such a long post) Stu.

Have just restored the machine to a previous restore point, re-installed MC3.1.1 and all appears well. If anyone has an idea on what may have been corrupted, I’d be very interested to know. Stu.
