  Going from 24p to 30i-solution found

  I had a bunch of regular 29.97 footage that I accidentally digitized into a 23.976 project. First of all, I didn’t realize that you could even do this! Once I figured out my error I looked everywhere for a solution of how I could move my sequence into a 30i project and rebatch my footage. I found a bunch of partial answers. After a couple of days of working with all the material I found I seem to have come up with a workflow that works pretty well and may be helpful to the masses of you who have also asked this question on this forum. I’m pretty sure this process will work going the other way as well if you switch all the 24s and 30s in this workflow.
  If people try it, let me know how it goes. I’m using Avid Adrenaline, 2.8 on an Intel Mac, by the way. Thanks.

  GOING FROM 24p to 30i

  Put the 24p sequence in a bin alone and choose “Show Reference Clips” from the “Set Bin Display” Dialogue Box.

  Make a Bin view template that has Clip Name, Start, End, Tape and any other pertinent data.

  Duplicate the Start column and Choose TC30 from the dialogue box that pops up.

  Double-click your Sequence to make it active.

  Go to Output > EDL

  Select “Get Current Sequence”

  In EDL Manager, select 30 for Source and 30 for Output TC.

  Choose the “Source” button to see the Source Table, print it for later use.

  Save the EDL to a folder.

  Close and then Reopen the EDL in EDL Manager and Save As OMFI.

  Move the reference clips to a new bin. Call it “Clips for 30i”

  Make a Bin view template that has Clip Name, Start, End, Tape, FPS and any other pertinent data.

  Select the bin in the project window

  Export the bin as ALE

  Close the Avid Project

  Open a new 30i Project

  Import the ALE into a new 30i bin (if you had a column called “FPS” you’ll see your clips are now 29.97)

  Under “Edit Menu” choose clip color and color all the clips green

  Import the OMFI EDL you created into the 30i project

  Highlight the new reference source clips (the little clips that come in when you import the EDL) made by the EDL and use the Modify menu to change them to your original Source names based on the Source Table you printed earlier

  Put the sequence in the ALE import bin and “select all”

  Relink “all non-masterclips to selected items, include off-line items”

  Load the sequence in the record monitor and set timeline view to show Clip Color as Source.

  If all the sequence timeline is green, it all worked and you’ll get the clip names. Anything that is not green did not relink.

  Then Batch Capture the clips in your bin

  **Check for flash frames. You may get a frame or two of black between edits in places.

  **Double check your sync.
