  Custom Shape Mask in AVID

  Can anyone tell me how to make and animate a custom shape mask in AVID..? I remember I did it once in media composer a long time back but i really forgot how I did it.

  select the draw tool and draw your mask. You can add feather and keyframeit to your liking.
  I have a tutorial here on the cow you can pull up with a quick search.

  In Effects Palette, under Key, choose Animatte. Choose a shape or a brush, select softness and size, and choose whether to key in or key out.

  If you dont mind I would also like to know if the same ‘Custom Shape Mask’ is possible to be done in avid express too or not. I cant find any options other than Foreground, Background & Tracking under Effects -> Key -> AniMatte. I am trying it in Avid Express now. Dont we have the brush tool in Avid express as I couldn’t find it anywhere in the Command Palette.

  Don’t know about AXP, but in the Effect Editor, when you have an Animatte effect open, there should be a possibility to scroll down, and there should be a right window pane that has various shapes, and a brush. If you click the brush, a set of parameters should open up that lets you set size and softness for that brush.

  Animatte isn’t available in Xpress Pro. If you’re using Xpress Pro, it’s best to go to After Effects or Boris for masking.
