  • Viewing application as maximized full-screen similar to PC

    Hi there,

Is it possible to view the Avid application on a Mac as full screen (ie, on a PC, the editing application can be maximized to fit the entire monitor(s) with a plain background)?

We finally switched one of our systems to Mac, and I love it, but I do miss having the application take up the entire screen without showing the desktop in the background. It gets a little annoying when an errat click on the finder window in the background switched you out of the application, requiring you to click on all your bins in the Avid to bring them to the front.

This has never been an issue for me with other apps on Mac, but Avid has so many different windows that it can be troublesome.

Any Mac users out there know of a fix?

    Thanks,

    Craig

Not sure of a way to make the background go away. But you can easily bring everything back to the foreground with one two button keystroke.

Command + Tab will pull up the application switching menu just like in a PC. Then additional presses on Tab will cycle through the open applications. If you stop on MC, all of the application will come to the foreground.

Also, CMD-OPTION-H hides other applications, so hit that combo after you click an Avid window to get all of the others to come back in front.

I can appreciate the frustration of having the application focus shift with an errant mouse click. Having worked extensively on both Mac and Windows systems, I prefer the Mac approach. In my experience, the ability to have visible a finder window, web page, text document or other app while working in the Avid (or Final Cut) has proven very useful. CMND TAB is a quick resolution when the focus strays. CNTRL TAB on Windows.

    Thanks all,

I knew about the CMND + TAB thing, just was hoping for something else. Maybe I just need to re-arrange my workspace now to fill in the gaps with bins, tools, etc.

I can see the advantage of being able to have other windows open while actively editing though. It’s probably a better tradeoff – actually a WAY better tradeoff – at least I’m not on a PC anymore! 🙂

I know exactly what you mean, Craig. Drives me crazy whenever I have to go on a Mac – always accidentally exporting things to the desktop! – luckily someone wrote a little program that literally hides the desktop with a plain background – you can pick the colour. I think it was a guy in Germany (feel bad I can’t remember what his name is).
Can’t find the link, so email me and I’ll send it ya.
